PTSD Assistance Dog Funding
Project SummaryKaya has not had an easy life. Mental illnesses make her everyday life a challenge. But an assistance dog can help her cope with life in a sustainable way and prepare for her professional future. Support Kaya with a donation!
I suffer from several mental illnesses and therefore have greater problems to present my everyday life. Everyday life is always a challenge, so my educational and professional future is also on the line. For a long time we have tried many different things, such as various medications or different forms of therapy. Unfortunately, very little of this has helped so far. Now we have decided with different doctors that a PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) assistance dog would be the only support at the moment that could help me effectively. Unfortunately, we do not receive any help from Pro Infirmis and IV, and the costs are too high for me and my family. But I would like to finally make this attempt. Every little improvement in my condition is an improvement that I notice and am happy about.
The assistance dog is to support me in everyday life with all kinds of tasks. He will perform these and other tasks: He will accompany me to school, he will calm me down when I am overstimulated, the dog can lower my blood pressure in stressful situations and he can also get me out of depressive phases. All this should lead to the fact that I can do my school graduation and afterwards can go over into a study or into the occupation. So the dog should be a general support and a reason to stop. The assistance dog will come from a kennel in Pfaffnau. It will be a Border Collie. We are already working close with the breeders and the trainers.
The cost of purchasing a fully trained dog ranges from CHF 30'000 to CHF 45'000. Since this is not an option for us, we have decided for assisted self-training. This is a bit cheaper for us. However, the training alone costs more than CHF 8'000, plus the dog, which costs about 2,000 and then of course the maintenance, the veterinarian and so on. The project is in progress and has good chances to be successful. Unfortunately, my family does not have the money to train and keep an assistance dog at the moment. We are in urgent need of financial support. For this I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
My name is Kaya, I am 17 years old and I am still in school. I suffer from various mental illnesses and depend on help in everyday life. This help can be partially met with medication, but not enough for me to live my life without setbacks. In order to continue to live a somewhat normal daily life as well as finish school, I will need the help of an assistance dog. Zac will be available for training and will be my faithful companion! I am incredibly happy and see Zac as a great opportunity! Many many thanks to all supporters and supporters!
The search for a suitable dog turned out to be more difficult than originally thought. It had to fit in time and the dog must also be suitable in terms of character. In addition, it is important that the dog fits me and I to him. We visited several breeders. We had several commitments, which then became refusals. Finally I got an offer from an acquaintance, they still had a free puppy.
Zac is a Border Collie from a cattery in Gossau. He is now 12 weeks old and still looking for a home. He is excellent for training and fits perfectly to me! The training will start in about 7 weeks after we get to know each other. A huge relief and joy has spread through me and I am very excited about Zac. Nevertheless, the mountain is not yet completely climbed and I am still dependent on support, so that the project will actually be successful. Therefore, I ask you to once again share the project vigorously with your acquaintances, friends and family members.
Thank you for all the support so far and for sharing!

From a therapeutic point of view, it would be extremely helpful if Kaya could get an
assistance dog could be given. Just the idea that this would be possible awakens a huge joy in her and protects her from gloomy thoughts. It is known from experience that assistance dogs can help patients to significantly improve their symptoms, reduce suffering and save lives. With the dog by her side, Kaya can maintain her high level of functioning in the future, successfully transition from school to work, and stabilize and heal in the long term.
