Project SummaryMillions of Syrians have been made homeless by the strong earthquakes and urgently need support. SOS-Children's Villages is already on the ground and can provide emergency aid in Aleppo. Every donation counts, thank you!
Background
Thousands of families have been left homeless with the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria and are in urgent need of shelter, food, medical assistance, hygiene items and access to water and sanitation. Help is urgently needed. Many children have lost their parents or important caregivers as a result of this disaster.

SOS Children's Villages has been present in Syria for many years. The city of Aleppo was closest to the epicenter. While staff and beneficiaries there are currently safe, the situation is precarious for many other people in the city of over a million inhabitants and its surroundings. "The daily rising death toll from this earthquake means that many children will lose a parent or caregiver as a result of this tragedy," explains Samer Khaddam, National Director of SOS-Children's Villages in Syria.

The aim now is to ensure access to life-saving food as well as to provide safe shelter for those who have lost or had to leave their homes. The provision of water, sanitation and hygiene items, as well as medical assistance for physical and mental health, are also part of SOS-Children's Villages' emergency relief efforts in Syria.

Turkey and Syria are hit by one of the worst earthquake disasters in 100 years. According to the Syrian Construction Authority, tens of thousands of people in Aleppo have had to leave their homes. The UN estimates that one in three buildings in Aleppo has been destroyed by the earthquakes. Across Syria, this has left around 5.3 million people homeless. The people on the ground are therefore dependent on the fastest possible support. Thanks to its many years of activity on the ground in Aleppo, SOS-Children's Villages Switzerland has an excellent network and can provide effective emergency aid on the ground.
