Project SummaryScouts in Latin America are trained to become solar ambassadors in order to enable environmentally friendly energy supply in their home areas and to promote sustainable development. Support now and become part of the positive change!
Especially in rural areas of Latin America, many households are not connected to the electricity grid. Children cannot study in the evening, home schooling is difficult, and alternative energy sources such as diesel generators or paraffin lamps are expensive and harmful. Our solution: train scout leaders as solar ambassadors to spread solar energy in their communities. Access to renewable energy brings about social and economic change.
Through Scouts Go Solar by Solafrica, scout leaders are trained to become multipliers for solar energy. From 8-12 November 2023, 12 Scout leaders from 12 countries in Latin America will be trained as solar ambassadors in Bolivia to promote sustainable energy projects in this region of the world. They will receive practical training so that they can pass on their knowledge in their home countries and implement solar projects independently. A network of solar ambassadors is being built up to work with global partners to promote sustainable energy and actively combat climate change.
Your donation will support the training of 12 new Solar Ambassadors and the implementation of 20 solar activities and community projects. Solar energy will be anchored in the training programmes of the Scouts in different countries in the long term and will also go beyond this organisation. As part of the training, the scout leaders realise their own projects, which are supported by us. As a result, entire villages have already been solarised, schools and health stations equipped with renewable energy and solar lamps distributed to people without access to electricity. We still urgently need money for the regional training in Bolivia. To enable the remaining 5 scout leaders from different countries to participate, we need a total of CHF 7,850.00. This covers the costs of travel, food, accommodation and materials per participant.
Solafrica promotes the use of solar energy to create development opportunities for people and protect the climate. The independent Swiss non-profit organisation bears the Zewo seal of approval, is a member of the Climate Alliance and aligns its projects with the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In rural areas of Latin America, many households do not have access to the electricity grid, which hinders education and development. The project aims to improve this access through solar energy. Educational opportunities are expanded and the future prospects of young people are improved. The promotion of solar energy helps to minimise emissions and reduce environmental impacts of the affected communities. Training Scouts as Solar Ambassadors enables them to share knowledge and skills in their communities. This not only strengthens local capacities, but also contributes to economic development by enabling people to implement their own energy projects. It also strengthens international relationships and promotes sustainable change in the long term.
