Water for education - education for life
Project SummaryAfrica Amini Alama promotes the education of the poorest people in northern Tanzania. Water is the basis for education, and only with a well can the Mukuru Secondary School be opened in 2026.
Background
The Mukuru region in northern Tanzania, not far from the large city of Arusha, is characterized by abject poverty. The Maasai community suffers from a constant shortage of water, which makes it difficult to feed their animals and fields. Worrying about their daily survival leaves no room for the education of their children.
But education is the only sure way out of poverty, leading purposefully to independence, freedom, equality and self-responsibility. Education is the key to creating sustainable change in the region.
Africa Amini Alama, which has been active as an NGO in this region for over 17 years, made the renovation and expansion of the existing Mukuru Primary School possible two years ago with the help of a sponsor.
Education is a matter close to Africa Amini Alama's heart and the project is now to be continued with the construction of a new secondary school in the immediate vicinity. The construction of this school has also already been financed by the sponsor.
However, the realization of the project is only possible if sufficient water is available. This requires the drilling of wells and the construction of a pipeline with tanks.

Idea
Water boreholes are to be drilled in the immediate vicinity of the school grounds and a pipeline built in order to provide the school with a sufficient and future-proof supply of water. Other organizations have already drilled wells in the surrounding area and it is known that water is available in this area.
A detailed cost estimate is available, which includes the drilling work as well as the construction of the pipeline and the water tanks.

Cost estimate:
- Borehole: TZS 8 750 000 = CHF 2 750
- Pipeline: 10 500 000 TZS = 3 300 CHF
- Stand pipe and fittings: 1 500 000 TZS= 470 CHF
- Pump 4HP Booster: 3 200 000 TZH= 990 CHF
- Transportation: 2 000 000 TZS= 650 CHF
- Labor costs: 2500 000 TZS = 780 CHF
- Total costs: 8 940 CHF
Implementation
In order for the school to start operating for 80 pupils and teaching staff in January 2026, it is important to start drilling and constructing the water pipeline as soon as possible. Your support is crucial to make this possible. The construction of the school buildings has already begun and was financed thanks to a generous donation. So far, the required water has been delivered provisionally by tanker. However, a stable water supply is essential for long-term and sustainable operation.
