Together with an experienced local partner, the YOU Foundation provides targeted emergency relief in seven severely neglected camps.

Background

On March 28, 2025, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit the Sagaing region of Myanmar with full force. In the particularly affected areas of Sagaing and Mandalay, up to 80% of the infrastructure was destroyed. In a few seconds, thousands of people lost their homes, their loved ones and their livelihoods.
More than 3,200 deaths were reported by March 31, and the real figure is feared to be over 10,000. Hundreds of thousands of people have been injured, made homeless and are dependent on aid. The approaching monsoon threatens to further exacerbate the situation – there is a lack of stable housing, drinking water, food and electricity.
While media reports often focus on the big cities, the villages and remote emergency shelters are neglected. But it is precisely there that the need is greatest.

Idea

The YOU Foundation deliberately focuses on seven particularly neglected camps in the Sagaing and Mandalay regions. Together with our long-standing local partner, we provide emergency aid – specifically, effectively and where others hardly look.
We provide affected families with the essentials: food, clean drinking water, protective shelters and solar power generators for basic services.

Implementation

Our local teams are already on the ground, in direct contact with community leaders, and are continuously assessing the most urgent needs. Every donation is used in a targeted manner.

The YOU Foundation's focus on neglected emergency shelters is particularly effective because these areas have so far received little international aid. The chosen strategy – direct provision of food, water, shelter and electricity – addresses the most urgent humanitarian needs and is highly relevant in terms of resilience and the protection of vulnerable groups. As this is an urgent emergency aid project, donations will be collected directly and transferred to the YOU Foundation to ensure rapid implementation on the ground.
