Project SummaryAs the site of the World Winter Games 2029, Arosa is setting up a fund with Special Olympics to support people with intellectual disabilities on their way to the World Winter Games 2029. Help these people with a donation!
The Paralympics, modelled after the Olympic Games, are sports competitions for people with physical disabilities and are world-famous, whereas the Special Olympics, which are targeted towards people with intellectual disabilities, have less of a presence. Between March 10 and 17, 2029, the World Winter Games (Winter Special Olympics) for people with intellectual disabilities will take place in Switzerland. 2,500 athletes from more than 100 countries will discover all the different regions of Switzerland, compete in ten sports and thereby advocate for the equal coexistence of all people in our society. The participants will also be able to pursue their sports in Arosa. To get there, the athletes need training opportunities so that they are properly prepared and can participate in the World Winter Games.
As the site of the 2029 World Winter Games, Arosa is setting up a donation fund in partnership with Special Olympics. Together we will support people with intellectual disabilities on their way to the World Winter Games 2029. By hosting the event and setting up the fund, Arosa and its fans want to make a long-term and sustainable social commitment! This way, they foster the coexistence in society, enable people with disabilities easier access to winter sports and support the development of young talent. With this, Arosa is taking a further step towards sustainability in order to achieve the goals of the Arosa 2030 sustainability strategy.
The donations generated from the Arosa Fund are used to invite mentally impaired people to Arosa to prepare for the Games. Since the first fundraiser at the Swiss Epic 2021, Arosa Tourism has continuously publicised the Arosa Fund and the donation opportunities. Since the winter of 2023/2024, two Discovery Days have already been held in Arosa and the athletes have benefited from ideal training conditions. In March 2025, the first Discovery Weekend will take place in Arosa, where the athletes will be invited to Arosa for a whole weekend. The fund will cover the costs of training, a ski race, accommodation and catering. Each year, around CHF 20,000 is spent on training opportunities for the athletes. Further information is available from the Arosa Fund. Thank you very much for your support!
The 2nd Discovery Day took place in Arosa in preparation for the 2029 World Winter Games. Highly motivated participants experienced an unforgettable day in the snow. The offer will be further expanded in 2026.
On Saturday, January 25, 2025, the second Discovery Day took place in Arosa, which was financed by the Arosa Fund. Over 30 participants came together to improve their skiing and snowboarding skills and experience an unforgettable day. The event was organized by Arosa Tourism in collaboration with Special Olympics Switzerland and offered competitive training and exciting races. The event was supported by the Swiss Ski School Arosa and the Arosa Ski Club. The positive response and the enthusiasm of the participants underline the success of the event and the importance of such inclusive sporting events. Discovery Weekend | Ferien in Arosa | Schweiz (only German) A Discovery Weekend is to be held in March 2026 and offer even more training opportunities.

All the challenges that sport faces today - be it the lack of volunteers, opportunities, infrastructure or financial resources - are increased for people with disabilities. With this fund, they will receive targeted support and can prepare for the World Winter Games. In addition, the issue gets more attention and hopefully the quality of life and opportunities for people with disabilities will improve as a result. A long-term project for sustainable change.
We will send the donation receipt (for Switzerland) in January of the following year.
