Project SummaryAs the site of the World Winter Games 2029, Arosa is setting up a fund with Special Olympics to support people with intellectual disabilities on their way to the World Winter Games 2029. Help these people with a donation!
The Paralympics, modelled after the Olympic Games, are sports competitions for people with physical disabilities and are world-famous, whereas the Special Olympics, which are targeted towards people with intellectual disabilities, have less of a presence. Between March 6 and 17, 2029, the World Winter Games (Winter Special Olympics) for people with intellectual disabilities will take place in Switzerland. 2,500 athletes from more than 100 countries will discover all the different regions of Switzerland, compete in nine sports and thereby advocate for the equal coexistence of all people in our society. The participants will also be able to pursue their sports in Arosa. To get there, the athletes need training opportunities so that they are properly prepared and can participate in the World Winter Games.
As the site of the 2029 World Winter Games, Arosa is setting up a donation fund in partnership with Special Olympics. Together we will support people with intellectual disabilities on their way to the World Winter Games 2029. By hosting the event and setting up the fund, Arosa and its fans want to make a long-term and sustainable social commitment! This way, they foster the coexistence in society, enable people with disabilities easier access to winter sports and support the development of young talent. With this, Arosa is taking a further step towards sustainability in order to achieve the goals of the Arosa 2030 sustainability strategy.
With the donations of the Arosa Fund, people with intellectual disabilities will be invited to Arosa to prepare for the Games. After the first fundraising at the Swiss Epic, Arosa Tourism will continuously refer to the Arosa Fund and the donation possibilities. From 2022 onwards, athletes will be invited to Arosa to attend various training sessions in order to train long-term for the World Winter Games. This project is intended to finance the first training sessions, covering the costs of training, accommodation, food and much more.
During the Ski Cross World Cup on 22.12.12 in Arosa, the initiators of the Arosa Fund shot a new video for the project. The old video can be seen here in the update.
The Arosa Fund raises money to offer athletes with an intellectual impairment the best possible training opportunities in preparation for the 2029 World Winter Games in Arosa. A new project video was filmed during the Ski Cross World Cup in Arosa on 12.12.2022 to give the Arosa Fund a boost. The ambassador for the 2029 World Winter Games in Arosa, Alex Fiva, was unfortunately unable to attend the World Cup due to injury. The old video, which was shot during the Swiss Epic, can be seen here in the update.

All the challenges that sport faces today - be it the lack of volunteers, opportunities, infrastructure or financial resources - are increased for people with disabilities. With this fund, they will receive targeted support and can prepare for the World Winter Games. In addition, the issue gets more attention and hopefully the quality of life and opportunities for people with disabilities will improve as a result. A long-term project for sustainable change.
We will send the donation receipt (for Switzerland) in January of the following year.
