Biodiversity Days - experiencing the diversity of nature for everyone
Project SummaryThe aim is to protect and promote the destination's biodiversity and preserve it for future generations. Through a week full of activities, excursions and lectures, the ArosaAkademie aims to offer environmental organisations, associations and locals a platform to share their knowledge and passion for nature.
Background
The Swiss economy and society lack awareness and knowledge about the state of biodiversity. The results of the Pusch and BirdLife surveys show that only 3% of respondents see the biodiversity crisis as a threat, while 54% are of the opinion that biodiversity is in a good state. There is a lack of collective knowledge about the state of biodiversity.
However, biodiversity plays a crucial role in the functioning of ecosystems and human well-being. Threats such as habitat destruction and climate change pose serious dangers. Rising temperatures are changing the habitats of many plant and animal species, with mountain plants and animals being particularly at risk as they are strongly adapted to their specific climatic conditions.

Idea
Nature awakens in spring and the flora and fauna are very active at the beginning of June. With the Biodiversity Days, we would like to offer environmental organisations, associations and local people who are committed to biodiversity the opportunity to pass on their knowledge. Their enthusiasm for nature and the environment should strengthen and promote the awareness of those taking part.
The aim is to ensure that the biodiversity of our destination is protected, promoted and preserved for future generations. The special features of the existing resources, near-natural agriculture and biodiversity can be experienced. The exclusivity is valorised by having key people from agriculture, tourism and forestry pass on their knowledge of the natural habitats to guests, locals and visitors, as well as young and old.

Implementation
The Biodiversity Days bring together all the programmes on the topic of biodiversity in one week. Interested parties can register for one or more individual events. We take over the planning of the programme coordination and communication and support the providers with their plans. The providers themselves draw up an informative course programme in advance and then lead the excursions or lectures.
The total costs for the week amount to over CHF 12,000, and this project will provide part of the funding. If more donations are received, these will be used for the realisation. The following items are supported:
- Preparation of the programme by the course providers
- Guidance by course experts
- Coordination of the course week
- Additional material for the programmes, such as specimens
- Further development of the programmes
