Urgent Covid-19 help for India
Project SummaryIn India around 3500 people die daily because of Covid-19: The health care system is completely overstrained and there is a desperate lack of oxygen. Also, a lot of people can't work and therefore food is urgently missing. Support with a donation of CHF 40 and help provide food and oxygen.
Background
India is registering a global record of more than 350,000 Covid-19 cases per day - the lack of oxygen supply in hospitals is pushing the situation to the brink. Hospitals are struggling to provide enough oxygen, and the lack of beds is causing patients to be turned away. Patients on ventilators require a continuous supply of high-dose oxygen. Patients are in desperate need of the oxygen - if it fails, it is tantamount to a death sentence for most.
The official death toll is over 3500 people per day and continues to rise critically. While the country suffers from this medical emergency, million more Indians employed in the informal sector are at risk. These people work as street vendors, security guards, garbage collectors, domestic helpers, etc. Daily wages range from 300 to 400 rupees (approx. CHF 3.8 - 5.0), which is enough for a day's needs, making every working day count. Since lockdown has been declared in many provinces, most of these workers have lost their daily jobs and thus their income. They can no longer meet their basic needs and are fully exposed to the pandemic.

Idea
We would like to provide Corona emergency aid for the people in India and are currently planning various measures together with our local partner organizations:
Our goal is to reach communities in smaller cities and towns throughout India: People who are usually served at the end. We have built a strong network of partners across the country and learned important lessons in effectively mobilizing resources for positive impact.
Read more- Providing needy families with food or cash.
- Covid-19 awareness activities in communities to prevent the spread of the virus
- Provision of oxygen facilities, hygiene materials, health services to poor families
- Psychosocial support for health workers

Implementation
With your donations, we plan to provide oxygen cylinders or concentrators for critical patients who have low SpO2. In addition to addressing the oxygen crisis, we will provide food packages to families so they do not have to risk their security to seek new employment or fight hunger.
Your donation will provide these families and unemployed people with a psychological, medical and financial buffer to survive the lockdown.
Read more- A food package/basic food kit for two weeks contains essential nutrients for a family of three (rice, flour, vegetables/legumes, oil, tea) and costs around CHF 10.00.
- For the supply of oxygen, we estimate the cost for a family for two weeks at CHF 30.00.
Your donation will provide these families and unemployed people with a psychological, medical and financial buffer to survive the lockdown.
