Windows for Tina's family
Project SummaryTina, a 38-year-old driver-guide from Madagascar, lives with his family in an unfinished house without windows. In order to improve their living situation, CHF 3500 will be raised to install the remaining seven windows. This will protect the family from extreme temperatures and rain, improve living comfort and health and contribute to financial stability in the long term.
Background
Tina lives in Madagascar, is 38 years old, married and has 2 children. He speaks Madagascan, French, English and German and works as a driver-guide. This is how we got to know him, as he accompanied us through Madagascar during our trip and solved every problem for us.
Over time, he gained our trust and told us a bit more about himself. We found out that he had his own house and asked him to show us photos of it. We found out that Tina has been living with his family on a building site for 8 years: his house still has no windows because he has no money for them. In the dry season, it doesn't get warmer than 10 degrees at night and there is a draught throughout the house. In the rainy season, it rains into the house through the open window holes and everything gets damp.
Although Tina is middle class in Madagascar and both he and his wife (she is a physiotherapist) work hard, they cannot afford windows. So the family lives in a shell of a house.

Idea
We were in Tina's flat and were so affected by his family's living conditions that we spontaneously decided to give them a window. Together we measured a window and accompanied Tina to the window fitter. Now we would like to use this project to help install the remaining seven windows in her flat.

In Madagascar, you have to pay the craftsmen in cash before they start work. But with the necessary cash, things move incredibly quickly: 24 hours after our decision, the window was installed. Tina could hardly believe his luck.
Our window donation meant that Tina and his wife were able to scrape together all their savings to afford a second window for the children's room. But the money for the remaining 7 windows is still missing.
That is why we are now collecting money so that Tina can install windows throughout the house, which will cost CHF 3,500. Our goal is to have the windows installed by the beginning of December so that Tina's family can stay dry inside the house during the next rainy season. Help us make Tina's home a better place and provide a warm, dry home for his family.

Initiators
We are a geographer and a biologist who love travelling and exploring the world. We have two grown-up children and live in the canton of Lucerne. On the one hand, we were fascinated by Madagascar as a holiday destination, but on the other hand we were also deeply affected by the great poverty: many Madagascans have to get by on less than CHF 1 per day (the price of 1 kg of rice in Madagascar). This makes windows an almost unaffordable luxury even for middle-class families.
