Schulbau für benachteiligte Mädchen und Frauen in Kenia
Project SummaryHOFOGI is committed to building an education centre in Migori, Kenya, to create more space for programmes in tailoring, handicrafts, business management, agriculture and education. Help them to train up to 30 girls and women a year and free them from the spiral of poverty.
In Migori, Kenya, the agricultural sector is dominant and women are affected by discrimination and educational inequality. The HOFOGI association is committed to freeing girls and women from the spiral of poverty by providing targeted training programmes and support. Women have limited educational opportunities and are affected by problems such as early pregnancies, school drop-outs and HIV/AIDS. HOFOGI supports girls and young women aged 17-25 from financially disadvantaged families to enable them to lead a self-determined existence.
We currently work in two small rented rooms that only have space for 10 participants each. In order to expand our programmes, we are planning to build additional classrooms and set up a computer room with a library on one of our properties in Migori. Depending on interests and abilities, training programmes are available in the following areas: Educational programmes:
Programmes in tailoring, arts and crafts, business
management/entrepreneurship and agriculture.
Supplementary training in basic organisational and economic knowledge for setting up small businesses.
Education and sensitisation:
Focus on topics such as (sexual) health, HIV/AIDS and hygiene.
Promotion of community and exchange through art, culture, theatre, music and sport.
Product sales:
Production and sale of own products such as cases, laptop bags and cushions.
Involvement of participants in sales and service activities for a modest income.
On 10 February 2023, we celebrated our first graduation in Kenya with 10 graduates who completed their tailoring training with top marks in the state examination.
Our aim is to create a centre that will train up to 30 girls and women a year and free them from the spiral of poverty. The total budget for the construction is CHF 45,000, but we only need CHF 14,000 for the first step. Step one is to pay for the government and county approval of the structural drawing to allow us start building. Step two, start the foundation and frame of the building with the remaining amount until where we reach. Help us to realise our vision and build this centre. Together we can create enough space to support and educate more girls and women so that they can break out of the spiral of poverty. Join us and accompany us on this journey. Your support makes all the difference. Thank you very much!
HOFOGI Claudia Masika works with the aid organisation HOFOGI (Hope for Girls) to ensure that girls and young women from poor backgrounds in Kenya receive vocational training.

Thanks to your support, the first important steps were successfully completed. In April, Claudia Masika travelled to Kenya in person to be on site and secure the permits for the construction steps. Despite the challenges posed by inflation, rising construction material costs and other hurdles, significant progress has been made. Now the second phase can begin: the foundation construction of the education centre!

In Migori, Kenya, women are confronted with educational inequality and discrimination. Early pregnancies, dropping out of school and the spread of HIV/AIDS are further challenges. This is where the project comes in by specifically supporting girls and women from financially disadvantaged families. This support improves educational opportunities, the girls become more independent and prospects for a better future open up. The project therefore helps to sustainably improve the lives of girls and women in Migori and make a positive contribution to gender equality in the region.
