Let's empower autistic people for a stress-free visit to the pharmacy
Project SummaryA visit to the pharmacy can be challenging for people on the autism spectrum. A special flyer helps to sensitise staff, avoid misunderstandings and promote inclusion. Support us with a donation to distribute the flyer in pharmacies and break down barriers!
Background
A visit to the pharmacy is often a major challenge and stressful for people on the autism spectrum (AS). For example, unpleasant environmental conditions such as bright light or a hectic pace can lead to sensory overload and thus to difficulties in communication. This can make a visit to the pharmacy impossible.
The manifestation of autism is diverse, which is why it is referred to as a spectrum and the need for support varies greatly. Autism is often an invisible disability. Around 100,000 to 250,000 people on the autism spectrum live in Switzerland. Together with their immediate environment, autism affects the lives of around one million people - every day.

Idea
Pharmacies are usually the first port of call for health issues because they are easily accessible. In order to improve healthcare for people with AS, we are very keen to involve pharmacies. The pharmacy flyer helps employees to better prepare themselves for dealing with people on the autism spectrum and promotes inclusion in society. A small gesture makes a big difference. Please help us to realise this idea, thank you!
Why does the flyer facilitate the pharmacy visit?
1. sensitisation and awareness
Raise awareness among pharmacy staff of the special needs of people with AS. Many staff may not realise how diverse autism is and the challenges people with AS face when visiting a pharmacy.
2. avoid misunderstandings
People with AS can have difficulties understanding non-verbal communication or initiating and maintaining social interactions, among other things. A flyer can give employees simple and effective tips on how to communicate more clearly and understandably to avoid misunderstandings and facilitate communication.
3. promoting inclusion and accessibility
A pharmacy should be an inclusive place that is accessible to all people. A flyer can make employees aware of the barriers that exist when dealing with people in AS and how these can be overcome.

Implementation
The costs for the flyers amount to around CHF 8,000 (if necessary, we will use our own funds and donations totalling CHF 2,500). This includes the costs for the text, layout, printing costs and distribution in pharmacies in German-speaking Switzerland. If we receive enough money, we can also offer the flyers in French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino. autismus schweiz is dependent on donations. We cannot produce the flyer without your support. The project makes a significant contribution to promoting inclusion by breaking down barriers in the everyday lives of people on the autism spectrum. By sensitising pharmacy staff, communication difficulties are reduced and awareness of invisible disabilities is raised. This not only improves access to pharmacies for people with AS, but also acts as a role model for other areas of society, showing how small measures can enable greater participation. The flyer is a step towards a more inclusive society.
We will send the donation receipt (for Switzerland) in January of the following year.
