Project SummaryBoats and walkways are being built at Lake Bunyonyi in Uganda so that children can safely go to school. Support them with your donation of CHF 50 and give them an opportunity for education.
Lake Bunyonyi in Uganda is a deep mountain lake, comparable to Lake Lucerne in Switzerland. The children from the villages around the lake have to gather in a central school. The way to school is not feasible by land; the children have to cross the lake to get there. Even to get into the few boats available, the children, almost all non-swimmers, have to get from the steep shore into the boat. However, many children already drown here. This is because there are no walkways and the small number of boats available are overloaded. Besides the danger of drowning, the high fees for boat transfers ensure that very few children can actually attend school. The same applies to transporting sick people to the hospital and shopping for those in need of care. Here, too, people suffer unnecessarily. The precarious situation of the people around the lake has worsened with COVID 19 and the total collapse of tourism, as all substantial income for the communities has disappeared. With the currently imposed lockdown, the situation is dramatic.
With only a little effort, the situation of the people and especially of the children at Lake Bunyonyi in Uganda could be dramatically improved. With your help and there-for-you.com, we would like to have boats and walkways built on site for boarding and disembarking. A reputable project manager is available on site. "Wilberforce" has already built a community centre in Kashambya Village in Kitumba District thanks to our funding. Now we would like to work with Wilberforce to build 10 walkways and 3 boats for the communities in the area. A boat costs 2'000 Fr. and a walkway costs 500 Fr. The total amount required is 11'000 Fr. With 5000 Fr. we could build two boats and two walkways.
After launching the project on there-for-you.com, we will ask Wilberforce to send an updated budget for the construction of the 10 walkways and 3 boats. After receiving the funds on there-for-you.com, we will send them to Uganda in fractions and ask for proof of construction from the partial amounts. The first partial amount should include 1 boat and 3 walkways, i.e. 3,500 Fr. Only after proof of construction will the other funds be sent in the same way. All progress in the construction, in the watering of the created boats and in the use of the boats and jetties by the children will be documented photographically and made available by us to there-for-you.com for publication. After completion, a final invoice will be issued.
Rebekka Wenger and Bernd Schildger did on-site research at Lake Byonyoni for a tour operator. The similarity of the landscape to Switzerland and Lake Lucerne contrasted unbearably with the lack of basic needs such as safe school attendance and health care. They also got to know and appreciate Wilberforce there. Like thousands of others, he lost his job in tourism (Sharp Island Gorilla Lodge in Lake Bunyonyi) as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic. Instead of resigning, however, he threw himself into the development of social projects and has successfully implemented them as explained above. With our project "We build boats so that the children at Lake Bunyonyi can safely go to school", we would like to make a small contribution to people who are far worse off than we are and who nevertheless look at us with happy eyes every time they can do something.
We are overwhelmed and thank all donors from the bottom of our hearts! We were able to successfully complete the project and, thanks to a small advance, already start building the boats. The first boat shines in a very special color.

Thanks to a small advance we could already finish the first boat to show you first results. In the next step we will build another boat and at the same time start with the pontoons. In honor of all of you, the first boat will be called the "Berner Boat" and will take children to school on Lake Bunyonyi in Uganda with the Berner Bear!
As soon as we receive all the donations, we can build the rest of the boats and jetties and save the lives and education of many people.
